Biography

With profound sadness we announce the passing on October 2, 2022 of Susan Holmes, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. She left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence in Des Plaines, Il, at the age of 93. Born, the youngest child of Patrick and Mary Alice Higgins in Cootehill, Cavan Ireland. Susan left the farm at the age of 18 to sail to America. In Chicago, Susan met and married the love of her life, Charles Holmes who predeceased her. Susan had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved her tea and sweets, her yard, walking and watching neighbors walk by her window. She worked tirelessly on behalf of Blind Services and encouraged her children to volunteer. Susan is the much-loved mother of Ann (Gus) Delforge, Jack Holmes, Kathleen Larsen, and Mary (Bob) Quilico. Beloved grandmother of Liam, Clancy (Kyle), August (Jenna), Kaitleen, Bobby (Colleen), Fiona, Cassidy, Charlie. Beloved great-grandmother of Colton and Maverick. She is survived by her sister Maureen Hogan and sisters-in law Mary Higgins and Mary Holmes. She loved her family and instilled strong values that have served them well. Susan believed that if she did not have her faith, she would not have led the long and fruitful life she did. Her favorite saying is “God is good, God bless”. She will be dearly missed and in our hearts. Friends and family will meet Saturday, Oct 8, 2022, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1880 Ash Street, Des Plaines, Il for a Visitation from 9:00 am until the Celebration of the Mass, 10:00 am, Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls or Misericordia would be appreciated. Arrangements were entrusted to The Oaks Funeral Home.
