Biography

Rita Bernadette Eder (nee Fenlon) passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, surrounded by her four sons, sister, and brother. Bernie was the cherished wife of the late Charlie Eder for 55 years; Proud mother of Chuck (Patty), Jerry (Nancy), Michael (Cece) and Dan (Laura); Adored Grandma and Nana of Samantha (Jonathan) McGuire, Charlie (Josh Collins), Patrick (Morgan), Briana (Nery) Granillo, Matthew, Eric, Kara, Caitlin, Maggie and Ryan; Special great-grandmother of Tyler and Riley; Beloved sister of Grace Reiland and Patrick (Pattie) O’Hara. She is predeceased by her siblings, Eddie Fenlon, Arthur O'Hara, Eleanor O'Keefe (Sis), Jack O'Hara, Dorothy Dawson and MaryAnn Robertson. Bernie was born to Edward and Marie Fenlon on October 18, 1933, in Chicago. She treasured her family and her Catholic faith. A Providence High School alum, she met Charlie traveling into downtown Chicago and they were joyfully married on May 18, 1957. After raising her boys and working as an Executive Assistant for decades, she enjoyed many years of retirement together with Charlie, spending winters in Madeira Beach where she became known as “Beach Nana” to her precious great-grandsons. Bernie delighted in being there for important events, from baptisms, birthdays and weddings, to ball games, concerts and graduations. She was happiest with her family gathered around her kitchen table, telling stories, laughing and drinking Miller Lite. True to her Irish roots, she did everything boldly, with determination and spunk. Bernie's life was an example of love and care for those close to her. She counted herself truly blessed and she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
