Janice L. Heike

Janice Heike (née Olsen) age 79, born in Chicago, IL in 1945 to Stanley and Alice Olsen, adored sister of the late Judy Turner. Beloved wife of Stephen Heike of 40 years and loving mother to Tim Eckel, Steve Heike Jr., Todd Eckel and Rebecca Greaves. Treasured Grandma to Cole and Brooke Greaves, Sean, Ryder, Sawyer and Hunter Eckel.

A talented artist, devoted animal lover, faithful church-goer, and an extraordinary mother.

Throughout her life, she wore many hats. From her days as a waitress to her time at United Airlines, she always found a way to support her family. Yet, it was in her basement, grooming dogs for over 60 years, where she truly left her mark. Crafting, watercolor painting, and traveling were her passions, but nothing brought her more joy than her family and her beloved Schnauzers (and one brussels griffon).

Lover of everything from watching Hallmark to horror movies, enjoying pastries, or hunting for treasures at garage sales. She had a knack for storytelling and could always bring a smile to your face, even if she fumbled the punchline.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by countless friends—seriously, she was one of the most social 79-year-olds you’d ever meet—as well as her family, including sons, daughters, grandchildren and more. They adored her just as much as she adored them.

She lived life to the fullest, and it’s easy to admire the life she led and the everlasting life she now enjoys. Her absence will be deeply felt, especially during the holidays, when her incredible decorations filled the home with warmth and joy.

Visitation: Sunday, September 1, 2024, 3:00-8:00 pm at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca.
