Biography

Frederic “Fred” Cardellino passed away on July 12, 2021 at age 75 in Las Vegas, NV. He will be remembered as a loving family member, great friend, passionate coffee drinker, and a huge fan of horse racing. Fred was born on March 21, 1946 to the late Basilio and Ida Cardellino. He was the first born of three children: his brother Anthony Cardellino and sister, the late Antoinette Cardellino. In 1967, Fred married Jill Messerschmidt and had three children: Nancy (Greg Alexander) Oland, Paula (Eric) Schulmeister, and Joseph (Glorelia) Cardellino. He then welcomed five grandchildren: Kristin (James) Ohono, Matthew (Dana) Oland, Victoria Schulmeister, Stephanie Schulmeister, and the soon born Christopher Cardellino. Though his long-term marriage to Jill dissolved, they still remained friends. Fred is survived by his current wife whom he married in 2014, Joy Rogers. She brought to the marriage a family of her own: son Jason Rogers, granddaughter Melissa Worlds, and late daughter Ginger (Michael) Worlds, Fred was the Co-Owner and President of Choice Carpeting, Inc. in Wood Dale, IL until he retired at age 70. He admired and enjoyed working with his long-time business partner, Donald (Linda) Peraino. He loved his business, employees, suppliers, and customers. After his retirement, Fred and Joy relocated to Las Vegas where they enjoyed the glitz and glamour of the city, the buffets, the absence of mosquitoes, and no longer needing to shovel snow. His surviving family will always remember the humorous side of Fred. Telling stories of his hilarious remarks to family, friends, and strangers on the street will continue to be a staple at future parties and gatherings. Though he is no longer with us, he will forever be in our thoughts, memories, and hearts. All are welcome to attend his memorial and celebrate his life on Wednesday, August 18th from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm at The Oaks Funeral Home located at 1201 Irving Park Road, Itasca, IL. A Mass will take place on Thursday, August 19th at 10:00am at Holy Ghost Church located at 254 N. Wood Dale Road, Wood Dale, IL. He will be laid to rest at Queen of Heaven Cemetery located in Hillside, IL.
