Emma (nee Morgan) Metoyer made her appearance on Cane River, Louisiana on March 23, 1932. Beloved wife of Wilmer “Mickey” Metoyer Sr. for nearly 67 years. Beloved daughter of the late William and Antoinette Morgan. Loving mom to Kathleen, Carol (the late Dan), Wilmer (Cheryl), Glenn (Debbie), Judy (Raymond), Cindy (Henry) and grandmother to Thomas, Brian (Lisa), Crystal (Anthony), Jeremy, the late Danny, Nick (Heather), Monique (Tyler), Chelsie (David), Jake, Glenn, Francesca, Josh, Justin, Bailey and Mark. Great-Grandmother to Andrew, Mailei, Brian Jr., Matthew, Madison, Brianna, Daniel, Mia, Max, Oreline, Emma, Tessa, Beatrix and Great-Great Grandmother to Kekoa. Loving sister to her twin Emma Lee (the late Alfred), J.W. (Marie), Fred (Florence), Gerard (Bertha), Mary Ann (Jimmy), Donald (Frankie). Preceded in death by siblings Joseph (Marie), Cora (Ernest), William, Louis (Gussie), C.J. (Catherine), Leo and Teresa (Stanley). Loved by God children, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Emma lived on Cane River until migrating to Chicago in the mid-1950’s. She finished nursing school in the late 1950’s. Emma married Mickey in 1957 and started their family shortly after turning her full attention to being a homemaker. While Mickey worked hard to provide for the family, Emma lovingly kept the home spotless and kept all 6 children on the straight and narrow. Emma’s role was mother, friend, disciplinarian (with her little black comb), gardener, nurse and referee. Emma also enjoyed spending time on the dance floor with her lifelong dance partner. The last several years, they were the reigning champions of the Anniversary Dance at family functions. All the grandchildren and their friends lovingly called her Momo and couldn’t wait to see what was in the dinner pots especially gumbo, rice and gravy, meat pies, tamales and her famous peanut brittle. After her children were grown besides babysitting for the grandchildren, she loved word finds, jigsaw puzzles and pitty pat card games which helped to occupy her free time when she wasn’t in the kitchen or doing her daily chores. Emma always looked forward to the chaos of a full house whenever her children and grandchildren were visiting. Emma was devoted to her faith. She especially enjoyed attending Mass on Sunday mornings. Stations of the cross during Lent and Midnight Mass were cherished parts of her Holiday traditions. A smile has vanished, a voice is silenced, hardworking hands at rest but the memory of Emma Metoyer will last in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
