Biography

Andrew “Anj” Mazzie sadly passed away on Thursday, December 3rd after a heartfelt goodbye with the family who loved him most. Anj was born on June 16, 1947 to Andrew and Frances in Chicago, Illinois. In 1980 he married the love of his life, Leona and they settled in the Bensenville/Wood Dale area where they raised their three children, Andrea, Richard, and Nicole. Anyone who knew Anj knew he was a charismatic extraordinary man with a huge heart. The tenacity with which he lived his life left a lasting impression on all those he touched. The things that gave him the most pleasure were spending time with his beloved grandchildren, traveling around the world, giving a good haircut, and making a difference in his community. He was a proud member of the Elmhurst Elk Lodge #1531 and always made time to offer help for different causes. Whether it was cooking breakfast, running the weekly Jackpot raffle, or being an event coordinator for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to conquer childhood cancer he was determined to make a difference. As we reflect on Anj’s life we realize that he was a local legend, an Elmhurst icon, barber extraordinaire, a great storyteller, an unbelievably strong man with a tender heart, a true friend and confidant, a tremendously generous husband, an amazing dad who’d have given his kids the world if he could, and the the best Papa ever. Words can never express how much he will be missed but we take some comfort in knowing we are better people and our lives are forever changed by a man who impacted so many lives. He is survived by his wife, Leona (nee Stobierski); his children, Andrea (Mike) Vallone, Richard, and Nicole (Rod) Lott; his grandchildren, Cora, Davide, Olivia, Jackson, and Alexander; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Frances, his brother Joe, and his sisters Patty and Fran. Visitation Monday, December 7th, from 3:00-8:00 pm with a Elks Lodge Tribute at 6:30 pm and service at 7:15 pm at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca.
