Biography

Albert Hianik, aged 90, passed away peacefully after a long struggle with dementia on October 25, 2021. Born in Chicago, growing up on the NW side he attended North Park College, where he played baseball. He then served in the US Army in Korea and upon returning from military service, graduated from Roosevelt University, Chicago. He then completed a 35-year career with Ryerson Steel in purchasing, sales and marketing. He is survived by his son Robert (Kristen). He was a beloved grandfather to Matthew Wold, Jacob Hianik and Brianna Hianik, great grandfather to James Pazera and Thomas Wold and uncle to Gary, Donna, Dianne, Mark and Richard. He was preceded in death by his parents Geza and Rosalia, sister Gabriella (Wood), his brother Frank and son Thomas Wold (Laura) He enjoyed traveling and square dancing with his long-time companion Mary Petersen. Always active, he rode many miles by bicycle. Also, an avid golfer, he spent many of his retirement years on the links either playing 18 or working at Butterfield Country Club. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 3 until 8 pm with Service, 7 pm at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca, IL. Interment will be held at noon on November 9, 2021, at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL. For funeral info: 630-250-8588 or oaksfh.com
